From Supt. Doris Woodbury:
The School Facilities Commission approved the construction of a new 570 student elementary school and the remodel of the existing campus into a secondary campus. This approval was a hard fought win for our school district. We are also on schedule with utilizing the “Design Build” method of construction.
Thanks to all of you and the community for your support and contribution! Getting this passed took every one of us working together!
Sublette County School District #1
Ahna McKee and Erica David participated in the week-long International Science & Engineering Fair in Atlanta, GA. They both had good interviews with all of their judges (both had over 10 judging sessions) in their categories. As always, there were very challenging projects from with over 1,500 students from 51 countries (this was Nigeria’s first year to send students!). The girls heard Nobel Laureates give advice, scientists describe their years of work, and visited several of Atlanta’s sites.
Erica received the individual prize over all the fair for the Ricoh (paper/printer company) Environmental Sustainable Development Award, awarded to the project focusing on research that develops strategies for sustainable development of natural resources for the future. She has been trying for this award for 3 years with her snow fence and wellpad reclamation research, and was very honored to get it this year! The 2 boys that won the team project for this award was from Denmark, and studied changes to decrease diesel engine emissions engines. This award from Ricoh is $25,000. for each student.
Thank you to the entire district for support of our K-12 science classes and the science fair endeavor 6-12. Science research success certainly doesn’t happen from science alone. We wouldn’t have the success we do with all our science fair students without strong programs in the other curricular areas, help from other teachers and support from administrators. This particular trip was funded by UWyo and BOCES.
